Thirty-five years after YJIL’s first editorial board recognized that “the intense frequency of global interactions and communications which are part of our life . . . make a sieve of the arbitrary demarcation between national and international law,” YJIL ONLINE seeks to harness the power of a new global medium to promote international legal scholarship to a wider, digital audience.

YJIL ONLINE is committed to publishing cutting-edge, provocative, and thoughtful scholarship at the forefront of international, transnational, and comparative law. Short, timely Essays between 3,000 and 4,000 words are edited and published on a rolling basis. YJIL ONLINE is an important supplement to the Journal’s print edition not only because the new publication will reach a wider audience. YJIL ONLINE’s concise format is designed not only for scholars, but also for policymakers and practitioners in an effort to bridge the gap between scholarship and practice. Moreover, the fast-track publication process allows YJIL ONLINE to be responsive to topical issues and current events.

Although the companion journal is published exclusively online, YJIL ONLINE is not a blog. YJIL’s editorial board remains committed to the high standards of legal scholarship that have marked thirty-five years of the Journal’s print edition. Online Essays are subject to the same competitive selection and rigorous editorial processes as YJIL Articles and Notes.
